Every Journey Counts

Help wild cats get to their destinations

Only 4,500 tigers remain in wild habitats — fewer than the number of captive tigers in the state of Texas alone…

Tigers and lions have lost 95 percent of their historic range…

Leopards are extinct in 13 countries…

…but it’s not too late.

Why Wild Cat Habitats Matter

Just like us, wild cats need to safely reach their next destination. Rapid human development fragments habitats, which not only separates wild cats from mates and prey, but it also brings them into closer proximity to humans. As a result, wild cats are increasingly threatened by human-cat conflict, poaching, inbreeding, and natural disasters. That's where Panthera comes in. Through a range of proven and complementary strategies, we're moving the needle for wild cats. By securing habitats, helping create protected areas and wildlife corridors, and promoting alternatives to deforestation and poaching, we're creating a safer world for wild cats — and us all.

Panthera: Who We Are

Panthera is creating a world where wild cats thrive in healthy, natural and developed landscapes that sustain people and biodiversity. Through cutting-edge scientific research, strategic species recovery, habitat restoration and collaboration with communities and partners, we're protecting the world's 40 species of wild cats and helping ensure a future for wildlife and humans.

Protecting Pumas and Bobcats in Washington State

Panther partners with six First Nation Tribes to study how the Interstate 5 impacts pumas and bobcats, identify bottlenecks and blockages in wildlife corridors, and help state developers modify the I-5 to better support wildlife.

Understanding Fishing Cat Movement in Thailand

We're monitoring the small wild cat species, fishing cats, to understand how a railway in Thailand's Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park impacts this species, finding that fishing cats use the railway bridges as a corridor between populations.
