Panthera: Who We Are

© John Mario Florez

Panthera works to create a world where wild cats thrive in healthy landscapes that sustain both people and biodiversity. Our goal is to protect all 40 species of wild cats — from the smallest fishing cat to the mighty tiger — across their natural ranges.

With supporters worldwide, we conduct cutting-edge scientific research, restore habitats, partner with communities, protect wild cats and their prey from poaching, combat the illegal wildlife trade, and safeguard the landscapes they need to survive. Together, we can ensure these iconic animals roam the wild for generations to come.

Why give to Panthera?

Your gift to Panthera is both a commitment to and an investment in keeping the world wild — today and for an enduring future.

40 species. 35+ countries. 20 years.

Here are just a few places we work:

Tanzania

In 2025, we established a new country entity and office in Tanzania to protect wild cats and their habitats in a remote landscape. Through partnerships with the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) and local communities, Panthera is leading research, protection and community-based conservation initiatives to secure these critical ecosystems for both wildlife and people.

Malaysia

Deep in the jungles of Malaysia, a Belgian Malinois named Phiri is helping protect wild cats. As part of Panthera Malaysia’s first K-9 tracking team for wildlife conservation, Phiri is trained to track poachers, uncover hidden snares and keep rangers safe. In mock trials, Phiri’s team achieved a 97% success rate in tracking exercises.

Guatemala

The rainforests and mountain ridges of Guatemala are a crucial part of the jaguar corridor, connecting jaguars, pumas, ocelots and more. To keep these forests thriving, our team supports local partner FUNDAECO in conducting patrols with rangers and community guardians, mapping and protecting the Guatemala-Honduras binational corridor, and empowering local communities to participate in conservation.
