“The Panthera community is heartbroken by the news of the passing of J. Michael Cline who, in partnership with Dr. Alan Rabinowitz, founded our Tiger Program,” said Dr. Thomas Kaplan, founder of Panthera and Chair, The Global Alliance for Wild Cats.

With an unforgettable charisma and the passionate character of the big cats he loved, Michael was famously dynamic and entrepreneurial. His most cherished work, however, was that of generous service to others in need, be they people or the wildlife of our natural world. He translated his deep insights and caring personality into impact.

Ever the first mover, as a founding director of Panthera’s board, Michael provided the initial funding for and helped shape the strategy that culminated in the launch of our transformative Tigers Forever program. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to his vision, which has changed the trajectory and landscape of tiger conservation.

All of us at Panthera will continue to celebrate Michael’s legacy and genuine spirit for decades to come. We extend our deepest condolences to Michael’s family and loved ones. May his memory be blessed.”
