Claudia McMurray is a distinguished lawyer, policymaker and diplomat, focusing on issues related to the environment, biodiversity conservation, climate change, sustainability, health and science. She currently serves on a number of boards and advisory committees that deal with these issues.

She is President and CEO of Mainstream Green Solutions LLC, a consulting firm advising clients on global public policy issues. Recently, she served as Senior Counsellor to the Prince of Wales (now King Charles) and his International Sustainability Unit (part of the Prince’s Charities), providing advice on climate change, wildlife trafficking, deforestation, illegal fishing and plastic pollution.

President George W. Bush appointed Ms. McMurray as Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans, Environment and Science, the most senior U.S. government official, confirmed by the U.S. Senate, solely responsible for international environmental, natural resource conservation, health and science issues. Prior to serving as Assistant Secretary, Ms. McMurray held other positions in the Bush Administration, including Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Environment and Associate Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In addition to her work in the U.S. executive branch, Ms. McMurray has extensive experience in the U.S. Senate, where she served as Counsel to the Committee on Environment and Public Works, as well as Counsel to Senators John Warner and Fred Thompson. She also practiced law in Washington at the global law firms of Patton Boggs LLP and Kirkland and Ellis.

Ms. McMurray is an honors graduate of Smith College and has a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law School, where she was an editor of the law review. She lives in Williamsburg, Virginia, with her husband Don Moorehead and her black Labrador Retriever, Molly.
