Building a Future for Conservation

A vital component of Panthera’s long term conservation strategy is fostering the next generation of passionate felid biologists and conservationists, providing them with the training and assistance they need to effect meaningful conservation. From post graduates to local people who may never have attended college or university, Panthera works to ensure that there will be dedicated conservationists for many generations to come.

Through the Kaplan Awards Program Panthera supports the conservation efforts of outstanding young biologists working on wild felids as part of their post graduate degrees. In partnership with the Wildlife Research Institute (WildCRU) at Oxford University, Panthera offers a diploma course in International Conservation Practice that equips on the ground conservation practioners with the practical skills and theoretical understanding to enable and apply conservation research and action in the developing world. On a local level Panthera funds the Lion Guardian program which is reducing pressure on lions by employing their greatest enemy, the Maasai warrior, to conserve lions rather than kill them.
